Establish a root
Till a safe area near your base, plant a Root Seed and water it. Leave adjacent space for roots to grow rather than blocking every nearby tile.
For a manual supply, cut the outward-growing wood and leave the seed in place. The seed is the continuing source, not the tile to repeatedly destroy.
Aim at the growth tile
For a simple automated setup, point a powered drill at the tile where you want wood to grow, not at the Root Seed. Floors can limit alternative growth directions and encourage growth toward the harvesting tile.
Give each drill its own target tile. Two drills aimed at the same growth tile do not create another growing space.
Use belts behind the drills to gather the dropped wood. For the precise Robot Arm pickup and deposit relationship at a storage endpoint, follow the drill setup guide.
Check a stopped farm
Check whether the seed was destroyed, the growth tile is occupied, another root blocks expansion, the drill has power, or the belt outlet is jammed.
Root growth has randomness. Start with one simple root and verify its behaviour before expanding into a dense layout. This page does not claim maximum efficiency or a fixed amount per minute.
